A positive voice to attract, retain and encourage growing businesses in Cranleigh

Winners and finalists of the Business Innovation and Growth Awards

Cranleigh Chamber of Commerce has been representing the local business community since 1925. Our community brings together people from every walk of business life — from sole traders and the self-employed to thriving small and large companies, not-for-profits, charities, and retired professionals who want to stay connected.

Our History

A Guide to Cranleigh published by the Chamber in the late 1920’s reads:

“The Cranleigh and District Chamber of Commerce was inaugurated in 1925, its objects being to promote, advance, advertise and protect the general and commercial interests of the district, to assist its development and improvement, to add to its residential attractions, and to oppose anything likely to be detrimental to its welfare.”

It continues “In 1925 the Chamber was instrumental in getting the Southern Railway Co. to arrange a service from London enabling residents to reach home within an hour in the early evening”. Then in 1927 the Chamber was asked by the Parish Council to organise an Appeal Committee to raise funds for the building of the new Village Hall. In 1928 the Chamber brought pressure to bear on Hambledon Rural District Council to retain the Council’s offices within the District instead of outside as was first proposed.

All of which were successful. Cranleigh Chamber’s aims remain largely the same.
